More than 1000 employees of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, their spouses and children will be left without health benefits due to the continuing financial crisis.
Employees received a notice, mailed to their homes by the Benefit Fund, saying "Episcopal Health Services (EHS) is deeply in debt and has indicated that they have no ability to make any payments on your behalf to any of the funds (benefit, pension, training and upgrading, child care, and job security)." Health benefits will be terminated as of November 1.
Local 1199, National Health and Human Service Employees Union, will be contacting EHS to discuss health coverage alternatives.
Calls to EHS and St. John’s were not returned as of press time Thursday.
