Lady Seahorses Dominate!

Far Rockaway Lady Seahorses track team ran against all of Queens at Cunningham Park in the first meet of the season this week and rose to the occasion.

The 1.5 mile run saw 100 girls race. Captain, Kesha Pryce, and co-captain, Marsh Hayles, led the way, finishing second and sixth respectively. Other top 25 finishers included Taishi Hyatt, Doreen Russell, co-captain Kelly Hudson, Tracy Gordon, Kenisha Johnson, and Kareisha Reid. Coach Gliner has his best team since taking over the program.

The team had a very busy week as the parents of the Lady Seahorses team along with Mr. Manning, owner of McDonalds on Beach Channel drive and Mott avenue, held a car wash at McDonalds to raise funding to help enable the girls to go to Orlando, Pennsylvania, Boston, and maybe North Carolina if possible. The parents club also has other fundraisers going to try and aid the girls to reach their goals.

Both the parents and the team would like to thank Mr. Manning and him employees for their generosity, and the community for coming out as well.

This Saturday, October 2 the parents club will join the girls in a booster drive at the same McDonalds location, so come down and show your support.

The girls are striving to make a difference and show the Far Rockaway community that something positive can come out of the neighborhood instead of all the negative publicity we usually read about. The girls are quietly becoming a force nationally on the track and are enjoying the chance to travel to other states to compete and represent Far Rockaway.

The girls are also hitting the books and keeping up their grades. They have formed their own study group to help each other stay on top of their schoolwork.

This is heading up to be a special year for the Lady Seahorses, so come down and give your support on Saturday, September 2, or send contributions to: The Parents of the Lady Seahorses Track Team, c/o Mrs. Jeanette Hudson, 3114 Dwight avenue, Far Rockaway, New York 11691.
