Janet Will Be Missed

Janet Fash and her young family have recently moved to greener pastures and it goes without saying that they will be dearly missed on the streets of Rockaway. It is not often that you find someone with the intelligence, fortitude, strength of character and conviction that Janet exudes, who was willing to give so much of her time and herself to making the entire Rockaway peninsula a better place.

Her energy and stick-to-it-tive-ness is what gained her the job as president of the Rockaway Action Committee. It was not long after she took over this position that all were able to see that she aptly filled the shoes of it founder and first president, Mary Leahy. Janet took over RAC expertly and gave it all she had. Her ability to work hand in hand with our elected officials, join with other civic leaders and organizations for the overall good, and to keep on pushing all the right buttons until her objectives became realities, is what set Janet and a few other Rockaway lovers above and beyond the rest.

Those of us who sit back and take advantage of the good deeds bestowed upon our community through the efforts of our civic leaders, need only to give a silent thanks once in a while to the "Janet Fashes" among us who keep on fighting for the good life for everyone on the peninsula.

So, Fash Family, here’s to you! As one of the sentimental Irish ditties goes, "Goodbye, and though we’ll miss you, our thoughts are always with you. So, from all of us, here’s to all of you, Good Luck, Farewell, Goodbye!"
