St. Rose Prepares For Parish Mission
As they prepare to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Perpetual Adoration of the Eucharist and the Jubilee Year 2000, the parish family of Saint Rose of Lima invites all to their Annual Parish Mission. This year, the Mission will be presented by The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal, and will begin on the weekend of September 25-26 when members of the Mission team
will speak at all of the Masses.
Nightly sessions will take place on Monday through Thursday, September 27-30 in Saint Rose of Lima Church on Beach 84th Street. Each night, there will be a sacred music concert at 7:00 p.m. (on Tuesday through Thursday, the concert will be given by Father Stan Fortuna, CFR) and the Mission will
begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be a specific theme for each of the evenings of the Mission. All are being encouraged to meditate on the Scripture and sections from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) which pertain to the themes for the spiritual success of the Mission.
On Monday, the theme is "Jesus and the Eucharist" (Matthew 17:1-8; John 6:52-58; CCC #144-84, 464-69, and 1378-81). There will be a Holy Hour and Benediction as well as a talk, "The Real Presence." The Tuesday evening session's theme is "The Holy Spirit and the Virtues" (John 14:15-26; Galatians 5:22-25; CCC #1817-21, 798-801), and evening will include a Holy Hour and Benediction and a talk, "The Lord and Giver of Life."
Wednesday's theme is "Reconciliation with Our Heavenly Father and Our Earthly Families" (Luke 15:11-32; John 20:19-22; CCC #238-42, 1423-96, 2201-33), and
the evening will include a Reconciliation Service (friars will be available
for individual confessions). The title of the evening's talk is "Love One
Another," and there will be a witness by Sister Lucille Cutrone, CFR.
At the conclusion of the Mission on Thursday, the theme will be "The Mother of God" (Luke 1:26-38; Acts 1:13-14 and 2:1-21; CCC #487, 777, 963-72).
There will be a procession with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a closing mass. The celebrant at the evening's mass will be Father Benedict J. Groeschel, CFR. The homily will focus on "Mary, Mother of the Church."
Friars invite the community to help with their food distribution to poor families in the South Bronx by bringing small canned goods and nonperishable items. These will be picked up on Thursday night, but may be brought to the Church
earlier if necessary. Although the Friars and Sisters do not charge a fee for the mission, they ask to take up a collection for their life and work at the closing mass on Thursday (checks should be made payable to the parish).
Parish family at Saint Rose of Lima hopes that the community will take advantage of this opportunity and come to the mission. Be sure to invite a friend along!
