Dollars And Dreams
It’s always easier to spend someone else’s money---especially when spending someone else’s lottery money. It’s so easy to forget the big chunk that gets taken for taxes. But what fun is nickel and diming and worrying about those details.
If we had 25 LARGE to fool around with we’d spring for free tolls for everybody on the Gil Hodges for a week. At 20,000 cars a day we’d still have more than 24.7 million to play with.
We’d definitely buy out a few oceanfront dilapidated buildings and tear them down.
Maybe we’d build some houses in the Beach 60s so that Derech Emunoh could have a congregation!
We’d contact the Concrete Institute to replace a few blocks worth of splintered boards on the boardwalk.
We’d build a fishing pier straight out into the ocean. And we’d leave space for a restaurant. We’d spruce up the bay for ferry service.
We’d make a huge donation so that one of our hospitals could offer a trauma center.
And we’d plant beautiful gardens in every vacant lot in Rockaway….with so many lots that might empty us out!
We’d bankroll a candidate for the U.S. Senate so we wouldn’t have to choose between the tiresome and the terrible.
With the rest we’d buy a few more lottery tickets.
But one thing we wouldn’t do---is move out of Rockaway! (Though it might be tempting).
