From The Artists Studio
Rockaway Artists Alliance
by Susan Hartenstein
Once again this week we are giving you a glimpse into the artistry of one of our members. Jack Domfort is a retired optician. He is a volunteer at Peninsula Hospital Center, working in the main lobby’s gift shop. I was amazed to learn that he has only been painting for approximately two and a half years. He began at the urging of his wife, Phyllis. That is when he joined the art class at the Hammels Senior Center, then taught by RAA’s Walter Gurbo. Geoff Rawling, who now teaches that class, introduced Jack and Phyllis to the RAA. Wishing to support the organization, they became members, as have other artists from the Hammels Senior Center. Jack paints what interests him and what stimulates his eye for color. For your enjoyment, we present a few of his paintings.
We include as well, two photographs of RAA’s Children’s Education Show at Citibank in the Waldbaum’s Shopping Center. The exhibit runs through at least the first week of September.
RAA plans to have a table again this year at the RMAC festival, Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26. RAA members interested in displaying their work and manning the table, please contact me as soon as possible. You may reach me at home or at the RAA office. This table is a great way to disseminate information about our organization and about your work.
You may now reach RAA at our e-mail address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you anon, in cyberspace.
