Dot on Roxbury

Emma Marie Feimer entered our world on June 15, 1999 and was baptized on August 14 in St. Genevieve’s Church by Reverend Father Jack Cullinane at a double baptism with her cousin Jessica Lee Meerman who was born on June 18, 1999. Emma Marie is the daughter of Stephanie and Donald Feimer, baby sister to twin brothers Donald and Matthew Feimer and granddaughter of Bill and Jean Feimer and Frank and Dolores Meerman. Her godparents are Kelly Jean Collica and Thomas Orr.

Jessica Lee Meerman is the daughter of Jennifer Meerman and Scott Hebert and granddaughter of Frank and Dolores Meerman. Her godparents are Stephanie and Donald Feimer. A great Christening party was held in the Roxbury Catholic Club for Emma Marie and Jessica Lee after the beautiful ceremony with drinks and a delicious buffet catered by Classic Cuisine for all to relish.

Best Wishes to Jim Kelly of Breezy Point who will attend St. Thomas Aquinas College in Rockland County as a freshman.

Ashley Elizabeth Knowles arrived on July 15, 1999 and was baptized in St. Genevieve’s Church on August 14 by Reverend Father Jack Cullinane. Ashley is the daughter of Michael and Kim Knowles, baby sister to Christopher and granddaughter of Donald and Bonnie Knowles and Thomas and Karen Mitchell. Her godparents are Paul Hurley and Shannon Mare. A lovely Christening party was held at the Roxbury Volunteer Firehouse. The drinks and delicious food were enjoyed by family and friends and cousins from Florida.

On Sunday August 8 the Roxbury People’s Association ran their annual sand sculpture contest on the beach. One hundred and thirty three people participated. A special thank you to Joanne Norris, Ricky Willis, Pat Rodman, and Jeanne Byrnes for their time and support. The top winners were as follows-adults and children: number one-Best Scultpure-"Have A Nice Day"; number one-Most Unusual-"Bowling For Sea Dollars"; number one-Most Original-"Sea To Shining Sea"; children only: number one-Best Sculpture-"Mr. Peanut"; number one-Most Unusual-"Absolute Roxbury"; and number one-Most Original-"Summer That Went Cold."

The Bozo Softball Club had their annual steak party on August 14. Groups from the Catholic Club, Moonshiners and Drifters helped to fill the clubhouse to capacity once again. Thanks are extended to all the great chefs: Pat Naus, Pat Rodman, Dave (Flash) Mitesser, Bill (Swilly) Reid, Bill (coach) Reid, John (Nut) Barile, Tim (Merc) McKinley, Roddy (Capt.) Rodman, and the bartenders: Glen (Cement Head) Sheridan, Jim (Poobah) Naus, and Brian (Mr. B) Bogart for all their help and Edna Marie Redi for running the shuffle board championship of Roxbury. It was won by new dads Dean (Mackey) MacEnroe and Bill (Swilly) Reid.

A thank you from Elsa Lehner, chairlady of St. Genevieve’s cake sale for St. Genevieve’s in Father Hession hall to: Patty Stevens-Fancy Cakes, the cake bakers, cash donators to Dotty Taphouse and Elsa for bakery cakes and very kind support from Harbor Bake Shop.

The Rockaway Theatre Co., Inc. in association with Gateway National Recreation Area in the Post Theatre in Ft. Tilden has a great show "Nunsense" that played this past weekend as a fund-raiser for the NY Firefighters Burn Center. Call for future plays.
