She’s 90 and looks 60…

Rae Cazone, mother of Kennedy’s bartender, Pepe, celebrated her 90 birthday this past Saturday, August 21 at Kennedy’s restaurant. She weighed in at four and a half pounds in 1909, is the picture of health and could pass for a woman in her 60s. When asked her secret she replied "The good attention from my children." Her daughter, Pepe’s younger sister, Josephine Curto, Maryann and Joe Morando and Teresa Walsh were there to offer their good wishes. A pretty table of flowers and gifts awaited her.

Heartshare is holding their eighth annual golf outing on September 21 at Dyker Heights and Marine Park courses: $90 for green fees and feast at Kennedy’s and Buckley’s.

The volleyball tournament at Sugar Bowl was postponed from last week to this coming Saturday…raindate will be Sunday.

Synam "Sonny" Campbell just returned from a golf vacation at Wyndam House where he enjoyed two meals a day, golf, and movies at reasonable rates. His wife, Marie, is in Ireland visiting family.

BPSC Bocce: Anita and Jim Wilkinson overtook, in a close match, Jean and Jim Brady 21 to 20. Great game! Shirley Hanrahan is a semi-finalist in women’s singles.

Wilkinson’s entertained family at BPSC: Rosemary Halndel came from Westfield, New Jersey. She is a newly licensed realtor and is a teacher in Hazelet, New Jersey; Jean Marie Dougherty is a second grade teacher; Erin, Joe and J.T. with mom and dad John and Mary Ellen Wilkinson all enjoyed a great cabana day.

Lenny and Ellen Wunder were delighted to entertain Lenny’s son, Stephan Wunder, who is a very successful national sales manager for an industrial springs manufacturers.

Nice to see Bob O’Connor, star on my past BPSC annual shows, back on the scene, even if temporarily. He is still the same and looks just great. He was the best emcee I ever had for my Golden Girl Pageant which will be revived for the year 2000. And, speaking of annual shows, the BPSC 1999 show will be held this coming Saturday, August 28. Get your reservations in-I understand it is only a one night stand this year.

Don’t throw overripe bananas away:

Heard on the View…if you stuff your bra with overripe bananas and leave in place for one half hour, you will appear perkier than ever. A great uplift to any day…Mr. "Glib" wants to know if it will work in his jockey shorts? Maybe he should try it and find out. Good luck, Paul.

Crisco, they claim, is a wonderful face cleanser and Preparation H pulls those wrinkles tighter to make them less apparent. Home remedies are so much cheaper than commercial cosmetics. Save money while you save your skin and body. However, to keep your hair shiny and health looking, and especially in good color, no one does better coloring than Gary at Janets. The sun plays havoc on hair and one does need a touch up now and then to keep it looking young and glowing. Before my son’s wedding Gary colored and curled my hair and it has still retained a soft flattering shade throughout the season.

Received an inquiry regarding the "glue" to ease osteoporosis pain. This was heard on Channel 4 medical news, but more information should be available in the medical journals or physicians specializing in osteoporosis.

My son, Kevin Matuozzi, a San Diego resident and new groom, will celebrate a birthday on August 29. Happy Birthday, dear!

I had a delightful visit this weekend with my other son, Jimmy Matuozzi, and daughter-in-law, Bettyann, and my grandchildren, Erika, Michael, and James Matuozzi, the new edition who will be christened on September 26 in Island Park. Their other children, Brittany and Robbie Cohen, were off visiting their dad.

What a wedding!

Al LoVoi, service station owner at Breezy Point, gave his daughter Heather LoVoi away to Andrew Faccino at the Central Park Boat House on July 3. Guests were treated to strolling violins and gondola rides. Happiness and good wishes to the newlyweds. Al is doing better than ever and I hear rave reviews from his customers. Though his gas pumps have been removed temporarily, he has been servicing more cars than before. Nothing like convenience for the residents and good mechanics to work on your car. He has done a fine job on my car so far.

While in San Diego…

Other than dining at the Roppongi restaurant in La Jolla you might choose to take a harbor cruise. I did so and found it most enjoyable. You leave at 7:30 and return at 10:00…just two and a half hours. Some of the dinner cruises here in New York should take note. Sometimes their four and five hour cruises are a little too long. Two and a half hours is just enough for a leisure dinner and some dancing and disembark in time to make the 11:00 news at home…

Around the town…

Festive party at the Copa for award winning composer Isaac Hayes Foundation celebrating Isaac Hayes’ birthday. He is currently working on a new studio album while devoting much of his time to charitable causes such as his Project Literacy. They also celebrated the first anniversary of Jump The Sun line of books on the rich culture of African American communities. The books embrace the beauties of black culture.
