Firefighter Steve Conklin of Engine 266 is keeping a positive attitude in light of the second degree burns on his right leg he suffered from a fire last week.
Conklin, with 61 other firefighters, responded to a fire at Bay Towers on Friday, August 9. The fire, which was on the ninth floor of the highrise located at Beach 100 street, left Conklin with injuries that required immediate attention. He was transported to Peninsula Hospital, and when the burn wounds blistered and became infected, he was sent to the burn unit at Cornell. He was operated and skin grafting took place on the leg.
Conklin spoke to The Wave and expressed his excitement that doctors will allow him to leave soon. Even though he will be on crutches, he looks forward to being with his family.
