St. John’s Will Be OK

Dear Editor:

St. John's is not closing. All rumors to this effect are not true. St. John's is positioning itself for a future with the Rockaways and Five Towns community. Because of changing demands for inpatient services, St. John's is in the process of eliminating various positions. Approximately 20 percent of those positions involve paper attrition rather than actual layoffs. The cuts are consistent with an implementation of a turnaround plan to improve the fiscal and patient care needs of the organization. St. John's is a viable institution. We are working in concert with the medical staff and community to improve and strengthen the services to better meet the needs of our community.

Recently a new Echocardiography lab on the Cardiac Care Center was opened. A new patient registration and scheduling system was installed. A pneumatic tube delivery system was recently installed. This fall St. John's is planning to acquire a state of the art spiral CAT scanner. St. John's is here to stay.
