Ed’s Fishing Station

by Ed Kaufman

Fluke fishing has finally picked up. Jimmy Woods fished the Jersey side of Ambrose Channel and his wife, Nancy, bagged two nice five pound fluke. Jimmy said fishing was "non-stop," but, as usual, most of the fish are shorts.

Porgie action has started all over the bay. Snappers are not far behind; they’re averaging seven to eight inches right now and getting bigger. Soon it will mean fishing for the whole family.

Crabs are doing great either with the crab baskets or with the nets. Marine bridge area, by the wall, has been producing some nice fluke also for those who don’t want to venture out as far as Ambrose Channel.

Richie, our blackfish expert, has told me that some of the wrecks like the snow are loaded with big blacks, trigger fish, and ling. Richie said it’s all on clam bait, but it is not really worth the trip because of the one fish per man limit.
