I flew out of La Guardia Wednesday, August 4 on US Air for San Diego for my son, Kevin Matuozzi’s wedding on Saturday, August 7. And, we are all excited. My younger son, James Matuozzi, his wife and three of the children will fly out from the Island. The new edition, Michael James, will stay home with maternal grandmother Rose Giuli.
While there I will also produce one of my "Travels in Style" television shows at Sea World/Legoland/San Diego Zoo/Balboa Park/ and Wild Animal Park. A full, full schedule. This is one way of not getting bored…I think I will need a vacation when I get back.
St. Thomas More parishioners are happy to see Father Hugh Byrne back from his July vacation to Rhode Island and New England area. His trip to Maine was curtailed because his mom became ill. She is doing nicely now, however, Father Byrne always keeps us well informed about the history of the church and the influences of the church hierarchy down through the ages. Please remember his nephew in your prayers. He is having a very difficult time.
Kenny and Carol Bain, former BPSC members now summer residents on Reid avenue, Breezy Point, informed me their son, Kenny jr., was 24 on August 1. Congratulations, Ken. Their other son Tom is attending college.
Tom Coty (favorite Kennedy bartender), Brian Charles and Jimmy Buckley were a few who packed the Buckley bus to Saratoga for an overnight to play the ponies. Hear they had a great time. Get your reservations in early next year if you want them to make room for you.
Huggy Bears Softball team had another victory over Fulton Walk with a 5 to 1 score. Mike Lynch hit a grand slam home run. Keep it up, Mike!
BPSC Bocce: Claire Hughes won her singles match for the first game as well as a win in Guys and Dolls with partner Paul Hanrahan against Ann Dentle and Bill di Lorenzo. Grandma Claire also entertained her granddaughters, Lauren and Valerie Ann Hughes, daughters of Carol and son, Corkie Hughes, at the club. Janet and Bill Ryan wiped out Cathy and Bobby Higgins on the bocce court in Honeymooners.
Gladys Crowley will celebrate another birthday on August 16.
A breakthrough for people suffering from osteoporosis (thinning of the bones which occurs with age and is the cause of falls and fractures in the elderly). Doctors now can fuse the bones together with glue. When the glue is injected into the bones it hardens and alleviates the pain. London has used this procedure for two years with great success and it is now being used in the United States.
In Modern Maturity Magazine you will find a survey on sex as we age. From 45 to 59, 60 percent of people with partners have sex once a week. Age 60 to 74, it drops to 25 percent one a week. It is a myth that older people are not interested in sex. Fifty-nine percent are still strongly attracted to their partners. As we age quality becomes more important and men become more romantic. They use words and show more emotion and caring. Viagra is used by only 15 percent of men who are impotent. Thirty five percent of men feel sex is important while 15 percent do not. Linking with a partner is the key. Relationships change as we move forward.
Two year olds should not watch television. It’s too passive. They need the interaction of humans such as hugging, kissing and playing with others. It is advised by doctors not to use the television as a baby sitter.
There is also a warning not to adhere to all medical advice on the Internet. It is very dangerous to order prescriptions when you have not consulted your personal physician. Don’t take chances.
Penny for your thoughts? Take it! Due to supply and demand pennies are more valuable since the supply is down. Bring them to the bank and get the higher value for them.
