Chatting With Chapey

by Dr. Geraldine M. Chapey

The Queens Community Arts Fund application seminar will take place Tuesday, August 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Building T-6, Fort Tilden. The applications discussed are for the annual individual and group grants which come through the Queens Council on the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts. Anyone who has previously never applied for one of these grants must attend a seminar to be eligible. It is advisable even for previous applicants to attend, since changes may have been made.

Beginning August 13 an exhibit of some of the finest art created this year by the children in RAA’s education program will appear at Citibank. Located at 113 street and Beach Channel drive, the exhibit will continue for at least a few weeks.

Maureen McGuire has been a member of RAA since 1995. Her landscapes, seascapes and still lifes capture her environment. Most of her paintings are quiet moments of reflection. "Lifeguard Chair" draws you into a virgin beach, with all its tranquility, before it gets crowded with the hussel-bussel of a summer day. McGuire was a member of the Flushing Art League and is a member of the National Art League. She has taught art and curated art exhibits. Her own work has been exhibited in various venues in New York. "Sunlit Window Sill" won Honorable Mention at St. John’s University Chung Cheng Art Gallery. McGuire’s work is available in lithograph prints and on a new canvas reproduction technique. She hopes her paintings give you reason to pause and reflect.
