Behind Closed Doors
Lew Simon noted in his July 17 column that Ocean Park residents are wondering where local officials like Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer are on the issue of the non-working elevators at the 27 story building.
Perhaps Ms. Pheffer is very busy working on the Dayton-Seaside property tax matter. I cannot say for certain because the assemblywoman will give me no information about this terrible situation at the buildings where her chief of staff, Joann Shapiro, resides.
And I guess no one in the community has any information for me-or is willing to share information-as there has been no response to the ad I placed in these pages seeking such information.
This much, however, I do know: when elected officials work behind closed doors on the public business and refuse all requests from citizens as to what is taking place, our constitution crumbles a bit more.
The silence of Ms. Pheffer and other New York officials to my complaints that the constitution is inoperative as to me seems to confirm my perception that our constitution is not what our founders intended it to be: guardian of liberty and justice for all.
