Come Back To Irishtown This Weekend

Irish Festival weekend is here. It’s that time of the year when Beach 108 street and Rockaway Beach boulevard comes alive on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25, beginning at noon and ending at 9 p.m.

The entertainment line-up this year is as exciting as it is diverse. From the critically acclaimed Black 47 to the riveting Hip-Hop sounds of Seanchae & the Unity Squad, the gutsy, folksy songwriting of Gerald Bair to the festival favorites Pat Roper, Paddy Noonan, the Moran Brothers and, a real Rockaway favorite, Andy Cooney, will be entertaining this year. There will be step dances and pipe music, great food and spirits, the finest in Irish vendors selling a vast array of authentic traditional Irish wares. There will also be artisans as well as crafts people at the festival.

This year the festival committee, headed up by Marina Callaghan, will be honoring as their Grand Marshall Congressman Anthony D. Weiner; Irishwoman of the Year, Bobbie Hart; and Irishman of the Year, Frank Harnisher.

Bring a beach chair, some sunscreen and your old dancing shoes for a wonderful weekend of the best in Irish-American culture.
