Work has begun on construction of the new homes on Beach 59 street and RBB. The "infill" housing should be completed shortly.

Channel 13 ran an interesting program, "The Savage Seas" earlier this week. Without mentioning us by name it was clear that if "the big one" hits in the form of a hurricane, we’ll be history.

Sewer, watermain, and street repairs should be completed by today, Saturday July 17, in the areas from Beach 132 to 134. Local utilities should be digging up the street any day now.

Those positive stories in the daily newspapers recently should work wonders in bringing new businesses and residents to Rockaway.

Mark July 24 and 25 on your calendar---that’s the Irish Festival. Stop by and have some fun.

It’s time baseball put Pete Rose in its Hall of Fame. More and more we’ll see those with questionable "characters" being eligible for the Hall. You can’t keep out every drug user, alcoholic, and malcontent. You shouldn’t keep out the game’s number one career hits leader.

Shame, shame on those politicos who missed the community cruise which raised funds for the fireworks display on the "Night Out Against Crime." A lot of hard, hard work goes into this and our reps should acknowledge the hard work by showing. In effect, volunteers, are doing the reps’ work.


Volunteers from Fire Departments of Breezy Point and Broad Channel helped out when the lights went out in the Shore front buildings.

We heard Robert Deniro has bought a house in Neponsit. Of course we may have misheard that one. Maybe it’s a guy with a lot of deniro. Anyway, we’ll believe when we see him. Last year’s rumor was Tim Allen of "Tool Time" and the movies.

Some big bass are being caught at the seawall. The fishing has been great and with the cleaner water has been for the past few years now.

A Far Rockaway man was arrested with others in a credit card scam tied to car rentals out of Warwick, Rhode Island.
