Cops To The Rescue

By John McLoughlin

Four members of the Queens South Street Crime Unit became heroes Saturday, July 3 when they rescued Dennis Davis from his burning home.

Flames from the second floor of 6401 Thursby avenue shot out as Susanne Robertson and six children escaped the inferno. Neighbors proceeded to pull the handle on the fire alarm box down the block, but it was out of order.

Not to far away from the fire were Sgt. Draves, Detective Lawson, Detective Dorfman, and Detective Flagg, all members of the Street Crime Unit, patrolling the neighborhood. They spotted the fire and immediately responded.

Once on the scene, Robertson informed the officers that her fiancé, Dennis Davis, was still inside. The four officers went into the burning house to provide assistance to Davis, who was unable to flee from the fire on his own. Davis escaped without injury and was treated by EMS and released.

Engine 265 and Ladder 121 responded to this ‘all-hands’ fire.
