Democratic District Leader Dr. Geraldine Chapey and Sharon Gabriel, president of the Regular Democratic Club of the Rockaways welcomed D.A. Richard Brown to our new club at 104-02 Rockaway Beach boulevard.
Sharon Gabriel took great delight in welcoming our friends and neighbors to our new headquarters at 104-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. The facilities are brand new, on the first floor, air conditioned and have parking in the parking lot in front of the club.
There was a standing room only enthusiastic audience to hear from DA Richard Brown, Senator Al Waldon, Kevin Kerrigan and James Golia, candidates for Civil Court Judge, Augie Agate, Democratic District Leader Part A, Frank Gulluscio, President of the South West Queens Democratic Club and State Committee Woman Maureen Ingram.
D.A. Richard Brown, who is an outstanding leader with an excellent judicial temperament (who served as a Judge in the Appellate Division) and a hands-on, decisive D.A. spoke on the many innovations he has instituted. D.A. Brown's extensive background makes him uniquely suited to be an excellent district attorney.
One area that D.A. Brown stresses is education as a primary key to crime prevention and safety. He has appointed a full-time director of training in the DA 's office. Through this he operates legal education
programs which involve the young people of Queens County. He has assigned Assistant District Attorneys in selected schools throughout Queens. They are in the school building once a week to talk with the students about preventing violence. They serve as counselors and mentors to the youngsters in addition, the district attorney's office has helped to create a pre-law program complete with a moot court which will open in September in Beach Channel High School. In addition, the DA's office has sponsored visits by over one thousand youngsters to the site of the US Tennis Open. The children have the opportunity to get tennis lessons and to hob knob with some of the tennis celebrities. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone. (DA Brown himself is a tennis whiz and loves the game.)
In addition, the D.A.'s office sponsors a Boy Scout Explorer program entitled Operation Summer Fun. This allows children to interact in a positive way with law enforcement officials.
Under Judge Brown's leadership, the Queens County District Attorney's Office has attained an extraordinary reputation as one of the finest prosecutor's offices in the state.
