Dot on Roxbury

by Dotty Taphouse

Terry and Jim Loesel are the very proud parents of a baby boy Zachary James Loesel who entered our world on June 21, 1999 weighing six pounds two ounces and 20 inches long. Chelsea and Jamie are delighted with their baby brother. Grandma Gloria Henry of Roxbury and Grandparents Dorothy and Cliff McKay are very happy with their new grandson Zachary. Congratulations!

A surprise birthday party was held in the Roxbury Barn II to honor Dee Dillon’s birthday of June 9. Dee was truly surprised and surrounded by family and friends. The dinner was delicious and was given by her children-a great party!

Marie McGuigan’s (of Rockaway Point) first great granddaughter Mia Juliett was baptized in the same Christening dress worn by Marie and a total of 23 babies Christened. It was made by Marie’s grandmother. Older is better!

The play "Arsenic and Old Lace" at the Post Theatre in Gateway National Recreation was very impressive and enjoyable. On July 2, 3, 9 and 10 there will be a USO vaudeville show. Veteran’s in uniform will be honored. Shows are planned till October, if interested please call 718-634-6482 for more information.

A group of women from St. Genevieves went on a retreat to a 225 acre estate in Manhasset, New York. It was left to the Jesuits by Mr. and Mrs. Brady (it had been their summer home). There were lectures, a delicious dinner and a walk around the grounds. It’s open to the public and well worth the trip.

I was invited to the Roxbury Barn II for dinner on Thursday by an old friend of about 40 to 50 years ago. Irving Ross of Rilden Jewlers from New York Cuty. He now lives in Florida with his lovely wife and they were in New York visiting his sister and her husband from Neponsit. I enjoyed their company very much and if I go to Florida I’ll surely visit them.

Happy Birthday Phyllis Taphouse-July 5 and Betty McKinley-July 8.

Happy Anniversary Lillian and Lou Georgetti-June 30 and Jack and Janet Durante-July 5.

A safe and happy fourth of July to all!

Love Dot.
