Waldheim Report On Softball

Mudsharks Remain on Top of Muggers

Led by Sledge and TJ, who built up their slugging percentages, the Mudsharks swept the Muggers today 16-4 and 14-6. TJ hit a homer and a triple, while Sledge hit two triples and reached third again on an error.

"Rickey (Henderson) come see me," said Sledge to his idol and look-alike.

Representing the Muggers offensively were the Salica brothers. Mike had a hard-hit ball and Matt had reached home on an error. Mo made an excellent catch in left.

In game two, Joey drove a run in and turned what would have been an excellent double-play, but lost the call to umpire Brown. Umpires in this league have been getting a bad rap.

Kenny Grey robbed Grassy's of an extra base when he booted an overthrow. Kenny the Rat voiced his displeasure but Grey snapped back, "Hey, I'm not even playing and I have more hits than you."

Super Ted the biker dude made his debut appearance.

Rockies Forfeit Two to the Assassins. The Assassins took two easy wins from the Rockies, who did not show. It looks like the Rockies and Publicans might forfeit out of the league.

Party on at Healy's as Teams Split.

The Brewers split with Healy's. In an "unearned" win Healy's scored eight runs to the Brew crew's four. In the second game it took eight innings but the Brewers took a 2-1 victory.

One source said that the teams returned to Healy's and had a great time with all of those guys.

"We beat them in a canoe race and then went crazy the whole night," said Seany A. He continued, "we showed that the Roundballs and Orioles have a long way to go before they can seriously be considered a party team."

Dare I ask, where did they get canoes and water for that matter on 108 street? Hmmmm.

Orioles and Big Dogs Split. The Orioles recorded their fourth win of the year against the Big Dogs, 10-8. Bobby Keating went 3-4 in game one with two runs scored, while O'Neill was 2-2 with two RBI. Tony hit a home run for the Big Dogs in game one.

In game two, the Big Dogs began a scoring spree in the bottom of the fifth. Keith "Rug" hit a grand slam adding to their 10-4 victory. The Oriole bench was quite lively with players singing and calling out their teammates names as they went to the plate. The Big Dogs attempted to fight a call with John O'Gara to no avail. He ruled the runner out. He did not slide in a "bang-bang" play.

Phrase of the week, "good idea."

Hope to see a good turnout at On the Waterfront (the old Marina or Baha in Broad Channel) on Friday night to support Colleen and Mike and to listen to some great tunes by Head Over Heels at 10 p.m. What’s up Frank, Billy, Val, Jodi, Keren, Nicole (the married one) and the gang., I will be in town to party this weekend for sure. Don't forget to checkout the Jamaica Bay Softball Website--- www.teamdiscovery.com/-jamaicabay. The all-star game is on Saturday, June 26 @ 2 p.m. at the Broad Channel Sports Complex.
