Boyle Hurls Perfect Game

One of the highlights of the Rockaway Little League season occurred Sunday, June 13. Kevin Boyle, ace of the pitching staff of Baskin Robbins, pitched a perfect game. Baskin Robins is in the Major division of the Rockaway Little League and this was their final regular season game.

In a sixth inning game Kevin had 11 strikeouts. His teammates were spectacular in defense. Beach club hitters took advantage of any opportunity and there were some hard hit balls that wee fielded to maintain the perfect game. Eric Gallagher was great at third. Danny Powers was a steady and sure at first base. Thomas O’Connor, at second, stopped anything coming up the middle. Shortshop, Michael Lonigro made a fine play catching a fly ball behind third base in the fifth inning to continue the perfection.

The perfect game was in jeopardy up until the last out. With two outs in the sixth and final inning the last batter for the Beach Club took the count to three balls and one strike. Patrick Miley, all-star catcher for Baskin, helped Kevin as the tension mounted by waving him off the mound to take deep breath to keep his focus. Kevin came back with two strikes to end the game. Baskin Robbins bats also made a memorable day. Brian Ward went three for three with a triple. Beau Forget had two good hits. Ali Joseph, Danny Valk and Jimmy Nellen continued to swing the bats well.

It has been an up and down year for Baskin, but this was a great way to end the season and head on into the playoffs.
