Roundballs Roundup

Doing the Split With Healy's

Roundballs vs. Healy's. Formally known as the battle for 108 street bragging rights before our move to the Clubhouse. In game one, the Roundballs quickly jumped out to an early 1-0 lead which was quickly erased by our lack of intensity on our defensive end. Healy's pulled away by four heading into the last inning. A late rally by the Roundballs was not enough as Goose Trichler, representing the tying run with two men on, got caught looking by Healy's ace, Bobbo Gates. We knew we couldn't afford a sweep this early in the season so we would have to step it up in game two. With this in mind we came out with live bats and opened up a 3-0 lead. Dave Cook's two run homer proved to be the winning runs as Healy's rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh. The win was sealed by Pat O'Brien's aggressive play behind the plate.

The Roundballs settled for a split, again, with a 5-3 game two victory.

After the fifth week of the season, we finally had our home opening blowout at the Clubhouse. For the thousands who were in attendance, and the millions reading across the Rockaways, are you ready? A number of teams strolled in as well as Roundball fanatics as DJ Tommy "Salsa" Healy spun all day and well into the night. Balfe's squad made themselves right at home and tried to finish our keg themselves.

Everyone was treated to a bar-b-que, cheffed up by Mike "Muscle-T" Markle. John Hanna started the Slip & Slide contest and almost took down the fence with him. Umpire Mickey Quickly put an end to the contest as his 13th dive ripped the runway in half. Tommy Cook and Sean Murray finished second and third respectively. While DJ Salsa took a break to set up the strobelight for the evening festivities, Eddie Doyle took over the mike. He provided everyone with a live performance of his #1 hit "If You're Not Indicted, You're Not Invited." Holla back if ya hear me Ed!! In the meantime, Tommy Cook took over for Markle and served up some of his "specialty dogs". The attention quickly switched to the announcement of Bobby Regan's invitation to some lucky young lady's Senior Prom. See you on the Booze Cruise BOB!

Jack Allen was once again M.I.A., something about a ball & chain or something, who knows? Quote of the week by none other than All-Star Cornbread, "Without me, you guys are nothing!" This is the same guy who goes to Grandma's after every game. And you wonder why our motto is "Ain’t No Party Like A Roundball Party!" Nice to see Dennis Cook make it to the party, hope your leg gets better soon.

This week we take on Balfe's Blackwater at Riis at 12:30. Party to follow at the Clubhouse after the game. See you then.
