Warning From Gateway - Don’t Swim This Weekend!
Because temperatures during the coming weekend are expected to continue to be high, Gateway National Recreation Area anticipates large crowds at its Jacob Riis beach.
Park officials warned, however, that there will be no lifeguards at these beaches until June 19. Bathers, therefore, should not plan to go into the water. Where beaches are unguarded, bathers risk serious and possibly fatal injuries, they emphasized. Gateway’s lifeguards will be on duty seven days a week from June 19 through Labor Day weekend. Until then, bathers should use the city and state beach facilities where there are lifeguards or participate in m any other activities that are available at Gateway.
Gateway’s beaches will remain open for sunbathing and strolling the boardwalks. Visitors may also explore historic and natural resources, hike, bike, picnic and sunbathe.
