From the Shores of Beach Channel High School

The Posse Foundation, recruits and trains culturally diverse teams of students to be placed on scholarship at some of the top college and universities in the nation. Posse scholars help address issues of diversity. To date, Posse has placed 135 students into Brandies, DePauw, Lehigh, Rice, and Vanderbilt.

Melissa Reyes has been selected for her strong leadership and academic skills, ambition and talents. Her scholarship is worth up to $80,000.

Melissa plans on studying broadcast journalism while also joining the television station and perhaps a few other clubs and activities and will likely play for the softball team. "I will not forget the staff and students at Beach Channel, I am living proof that you can have a great education at Beach Channel. The resources are here, you will only get as much out of it as how much you put in."

***On Friday evening, June 4, eight of our students volunteered for New York State School Music Association evaluations as singers at Talent Unlimited High School. Five of them had ratings of excellence. They are Natalie Fleysher, Elena Marian, Anthony Brown, Noel Hance, and Edwin Gaston. Carlos Mercado and Thomas Kimble were rated as outstanding singers and Nidia Merino was rated on the highest level which makes her eligible next year to try out for the All State Chorus.
