Rockaway Little League

Looking For A Few Good Umps
By Shelley Plock

Saturday brought Little League some fog to battle with. Consequently some of the games were called off. However, some play’s been squeezed in and overall play has been excellent. Little League would like to thank everyone for their generosity in volunteering their time. Without these volunteers, Little League would not be possible.

We have a strong need for volunteer umpires. If you are available please contact Marty Andresen or Jim Roberts.

Animal Clinic raised its record to 2-0 besting Plaza 9-2. Matt Reen got the win, striking out 6 over 3 innings. Bill Becker 2 for 3 with 2 rbi, Kevin Roberts 2-3 with 1 rbi & 2 runs scored, Jason Rodriguez 1-2 with 1rbi and a run scored, Steve Guardino a run scored, Jack Ogden 1-2 with 2 rbi.

In Pee-Wee play, V & B Auto Body had a busy week with three wins. Hitting stars included Matt Allessi, Brian "Boomer" Edwards, Richie Dyer, Brianna Maroney, Dominick Demarco, Nicholas Mastros, and John Martin. Solid defense was supplied by Jon Ameruso, Eddie Warren, and Josh Frankel.

The wins kept coming with Conor O’Grady, Matthew Horgan, Andrew Callahan, and Sean K playing top notch ball.

We would like to encourage all coaches to please leave a highlight sheet for their team’s games. If time is a problem, just leave me some of the names and I will write around it. You can also e-mail me with the highlights. My e-mail address is PAPERBABE@AOL.COM---and if you forget it, it’s posted in the clubhouse, too.

Animal Clinic Roars. Record now stands at 4-0.

Animal Clinic bested The Beach Club 12-1 on May 3. Matt Reen went 2-3 with 4 rbi, Ari Segui was 1-3 with 2 rbi. Animal Clinic pitching combined for a one-hitter, posting 14 strikeouts, with Ryan Roberts picking up his first victory of the season. For The Beach Club, Brendan Smith was 1-3 with a run scored and pitched several strong innings.

On Saturday May 8, Animal Clinic continued its winning ways, earning a 13-7 victory over ATP. Kevin Cashen pitched three strong innings in route to his first victory of the year. Four different pitchers have accounted for the 4 Animal Clinic victories. On offense Kevin Roberts' (1-2, 2 rbi) bases loaded single in the second broke open a close contest.
