Michael James has arrived!

My new grandson, Michael James Matuozzi, entered the world at 6:48 p.m. on Friday, May 21. All 20 inches of him weighed in at eight pounds. He swallowed some of mommy’s fluid on his journey and was put in an incubator for a few days. He is doing fine now and was taken home from the hospital on Wednesday, May 26 by his pretty mom Bettyann and handsome dad (my son) James Matuozzi. That completes their family for awhile with little adorable sister Erika Matuozzi, to be two on July 4, and other sister, pert and pretty Brittany Cohen and good looking brother, Robbie Cohen. Congratulations and lots of love and happiness with the new addition and with the whole family. Love you all.

I wish to thank Kevin Boyle for being a guest on the Tonight Show when I was host. The response was so overwhelming I asked the producer to invite him back again. They loved you, Kevin. So funny, funny, funny. You made a big hit! For a sports writer he is some sport!

My heart goes out to Kathy Ferguson, who has been back in the hospital for several weeks and does not know when she will be released. Please pray for her. She has been ill and in pain for two years after the car accident that caused her injury. Hopefully the doctors will find some relief for her soon. Her mom, Kay Salica, and daughter Caitlin need you prayers, too.

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. Let’s not forget our brave young men and women who fought on the battlefields in our wars so that we may enjoy living in our free and wonderful USA. Let’s give thanks to them and hope and pray other fine young men won’t have to fight again. The prospects don’t look good. We find we are walking unsteady ground as we face the conflicts in Kosovo and the revelations of Chinese espionage. It is all so threatening to our future peace and prosperity. How do we stop the bombs, the bloodshed and the suffering that causes so much misery? How do we become more civilized in the next 21 Century? What is our United Nations doing? And, why aren’t they doing more? As Joan Rivers would say, "Can we talk?". Well, we should be talking more…killing does not stop killing. It has only exacerbated the suffering. Proper communication and compromise is needed to bring about peace as well as punishment, for the leaders who violate the civil rights of their people. As one of our well known poets put it…"In the parliament of man the federation of the world."

On the lighter side of Memorial Day weekend it is also a holiday to enjoy yourself…on Friday night Kennedy’s is featuring The Traveling Man starting at 10 p.m.; Saturday also at 10 p.m. Garavougue and Sunday at 9 p.m. The Nashville Attitude. Join your friends and neighbors and have a good time.

There are many of you in Rockaway who are interested in arts and crafts, especially craftsmaker Susan Locke. I thought of you all when I attended the 67 street and Park avenue Armory in New York City where the Sofa Arts and Crafts Show appeared last week. Mark your calendar for next year. You should not miss it. It was a beautiful show.

"Jockey International" launched their new sports bra and collection for the millennium at the Miniskoff Theatre where the press also witnessed the unveiling of their new 42 street poster. Soap opera stars followed the pro models to display underwear: Erika Herbst from General Hospital; Erika Page from One Life To Live; Julie Pinson on Port Charles; Kelly Ripa and Esta Ter Blanche on All My Children. They introduced the most comfortable, bets fitting, fully constructed bras created to date. And, in response to 70 percent of women surveyed Jockey designed the bra sizer to measure a bra to fit you perfectly. Guaranteed comfort.
