Assembly celebrates multiple cultures.

On May 6, Far Rockaway High School presented its Multicultural Assembly, with the slogan "We all smile in the same language." The audience was composed of students who, because of such accomplishments as high grade-point averages, perfect attendance, etc., warranted an invitation to this occasion. Entertainment included a performance by the FRHS Gospel choir, under the direction of Mr. Robert Carpentier, as well as musical selections by the group "Seduction" (Tyrone Simmons, Joshua Montauban, John Santiago, Jason Ortiz and Ivan Hill). Singers and guitarists Juan Garcia and Leonardo Rodriguez also performed their own compositions. As a special added attraction. Cast members of the forthcoming production of "Scenes from the West Side" performed "I Want to be in America."

(Stage-directed by Ms. Dattner, with musical direction by Mr. Carpentier and choreography by Ms. Hughes, "Scenes from the West Side" will be performed on June 3 and 4). The assembly ended as Dean Artime and Mr. Carlos Ortiz demonstrated Latino Dance techniques ("merenge salsa") to the delight of the audience.
