Spedale Becomes Merchant Marine


Seafarer Damian Spedale of Belle Harbor is a new member of the United States Merchant Marines after graduating from the Unlicensed Apprentice Program at the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education in Piney Point, Maryland.

Spedale, the son of Irma Seabury and Frank Spedale, completed nine months of training that taught the basic skills of seamanship in order to work aboard a U.S. flagged commercial vessel. Spedale also received on the job training as he worked aboard the Sea Land Achiever, an operational U.S flag merchant vessel for three months.
