Local Man Gets 18 Years For Sexual Assault

A Rockaway man who stabbed, sexually assaulted and permanently blinded a female relative who was visiting him was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the vicious attack.

"The defendant committed a vicious sexual assault on a female relative visiting from Nigeria that permanently cost the sight in her left eye.  She also faces reconstructive plastic surgery," said Queens DA Richard Brown.

William Joseph, 52, of McBride Street, a maintenance worker for the Housing Authority, pled guilty on April 27 to rape in the first degree and attempted murder in the second degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice Joseph A. Grosso who imposed a determinate sentence of 18 years in prison. Joseph admitted that he attacked the 41-year-old victim, and attempted to cause her death during a rape. The victim was stabbed repeatedly in the face and body with three kitchen knives and bitten several times on the face and body.
