Harrison Gets Humanitarian Award For Iraq Action

Arverne resident Victor Harrison poses with two citations he recently received for his actions as a civilian Department of Defense employee in Iraq. According to military sources, in May of 2003, Harrison assisted the 447 Military Police Company at Camp Bucca in Iraq, but acting as a go-between when the MP’s needed a Spanish interpreter in an explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) event. "Victor was at the medical tent and translated for us. With Victor’s help, the Spanish EOD team was able to disarm the rocket propelled grenade round we found," says First Lieutenant Michael Flury of the MP Company. "Due to Victor’s ability to translate our needs, the lives of many soldiers at Camp Bucca quite possibly were saved."
