Carey Sings At Shea To Open Subway Series

Petty Officer 3rd Class Laura Carey, formerly of Belle Harbor, will sing both the "Star Spangled Banner" and "America" at Shea Stadium this weekend to open the "Subway Series" between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.Carey, who now lives in Hewlett, is a member of the Navy band stationed at Newport, Rhode Island. She received her musical training at the Peabody Conservatory and John Hopkins.


The petty officer will sing the national anthem to open the game and "America" during the seventh inning stretch.

Carey's parents, formerly of Belle Harbor and now of Hewlett are Anne-Marie and Arthur Carey.

Her grandparents are Marion O'Hara and the late Danny O'Hara of Rockaway and Mildred and Joe Carey of Broad Channel.
