for larger version       SNAP Urges Victims of Ferraro To Speak By Howard Schwach The Survivor’s Network of Those Abused By Priests (SNAP), which bills itself as the largest support group for clergy molestation victims in the United States, has issued a letter to a number of American bishops urging them to have parishioners who were abused by the Reverend Romano Feraro to come forward and to report that abuse to local police officials. Ferraro, who once served at St. Rose of Lima Church in Rockaway and who reportedly abused a number of local boys during the period from 1971 to 1973, was sentenced last week to life in prison after his conviction on charges of abusing a Massachusetts boy. "We can only hope that this sentence brings some measure of justice and healing to the victims of Father Ferraro," says David Cerilli, a board member for SNAP who lives in New York City. "In addition, we hope that this ruling encourages other victims of this priest to come forward." "We make this request not to seek vengeance, but in order that justice be served and to help to insure that other children will be protected," he added. Ferraro faces at least two civil molestation lawsuits in St. Louis, Missouri for victimizing a boy at St. Joan of Arc Parish in the early 1980’s. When the story first broke in The Wave, a number of men, all of whom asked to remain anonymous, said that they had been abused by Ferraro while he was at St. Rose.
