for larger version       Power Squadron Adds Second Boating Class Due to overwhelming response, the Brooklyn Power Squadron has added a second spring class in safe boating. Classes will be held at the Ryan Center (the old control tower, visitor information center), Floyd Bennett Field, Starting Monday, June 7 Classes will be two hours of instruction for four weeks of instruction. A final test with presentation of certificates of completion will be presented at the final class. This class is open to men, women, and teenagers. Ownership of a Boat/Jet Ski is not required for the course and graduates may be eligible for a discount on their boat insurance. Classroom lectures and self-study lessons cover the techniques of safe handling of sail and power craft, anchoring, basic knot typing, using a mariners compass, marine telephone procedures and safety afloat. And more…… The course instruction is free. There is a small charge for materials. Students who pass this course will get an education certificate, this should be sufficient to present to a state official in a state that requires mandatory education and/or state license. The Brooklyn Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadron, the world’s largest private organization conducts the classes to teach mariners and those interested in boating.
