Man Sentenced in Assault On Rockaway
Woman Brown identified the defendant as Joseph Russell, 40, of 117 South Elliot Avenue in Brooklyn, a night club bouncer. The defendant was found guilty on May 14, 2003 after a jury trial of Assault in the First and Second Degree before Queens Supreme Court Justice William M. Erlbaum who imposed today's sentence of 20 years to life in prison. The sentencing was repeatedly adjourned because of post trial motions by the defense. The District Attorney said that according to trial testimony, at 8:30 p.m. on August 11, 2002 the defendant attacked and repeatedly punched his 41-year-old girlfriend in the face and arm at her residence on Seagirt Boulevard in Far Rockaway causing her to sustain numerous injuries including a ruptured right eye globe and loss of her eye. | |||||
