Click Here for More Information Sharks’ Defense Holds Down Freedom By Elio Velez The New York Sharks had 2 weeks to work out their offensive woes as they struggled to defeat the Atlanta Xplosion 28-21 on April 3. And though they pulled off a 26-0 win over the visiting New Hampshire, the Sharks defense once again pulled off the big plays. The Sharks (2-0) were trying to win their 22nd consecutive regular season game and it looked to happen in the Sharks first offensive series. At their own 6 yard line, QB Val Halesworth threw a quick sideline pass and WR Kathy Holloman sprinted pass the Freedom Defense. Her 94-yard touchdown gave the Sharks a 7-0 lead only 36 seconds in to the game. The scoreboard would remain 7-0 for a long time. The Sharks defense once again kept the game close as they easily handled the Freedom offense. RB Katia Pashkevitch could not get on track as she rushed for only 10 yards on the day. In the third quarter, Sharks LB Missy Marmorale broke up a Freedom drive as she scored on a 63-yard interception return to give the Sharks a 14-0 lead. It seemed to break the spirits of the Freedom and the defense kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter. The Sharks special teams took over in the fourth quarter. They blocked a Freedom punt in the 4th quarter and gave the offense an easy chance to score when Halesworth scored on a three yard touchdown run to make it 20-0. Darleen Hall blocked another Freedom punt and Halewsowrth closed the game with a 4-yard TD pass to WR Karen Mulligan for the 26-0 win. The Montreal Blitz will face off against the Sharks on Saturday, 3 p.m. at August Martin High School.
