for larger version       100th Precinct Gives Burglary Prevention Tips 100th Precinct Crime Prevention Officer Brian McCabe has released a list of thing you can to do to prevent your home from being burglarized. • Keep all doors and windows locked, especially at night and when out, even for a short period of time • Install motion sensor activated lighting fixtures at approaches to driveways, alleyways, front entrances and rear yards. • With double hung windows, it is recommended that you tract your windows using a piece of wood in the window tract preventing the window from being raised or lowered. This is also recommended for sliding glass doors. Basement windows should be protected by using a fire department approved ferry gate, which pulls across the inside of the window and works with a latching device in case of a fire. • Doors should be of solid wood or metal at least 1 ¾ inches thick. Doors should be equipped with a 90-degree viewfinder. These doors should also be equipped with a single cylinder dead bolt lock. • Alarm systems should be professionally installed with all windows and doors protected.
