Cancer Society Seeks Survivors For Relay
By Howard Schwach

The American Cancer Society, the major sponsor of the annual Relay For Life event is looking for survivors of the disease that it can honor at this year’s Rockaway event.

"In honor of your battle against cancer, we invite you and your caregiver to join us in celebration of your cancer survivorship by walking the first lap of the Relay For Life," the society says in an invitation letter. "Your strength and courage are a personal testimony of the progress we are making in our fight against Cancer."

The Rockaway Relay For Life, an overnight affair, will take place at Beach Channel High School on June 5 and 6.

Teams of local residents will join this fundraiser, sleeping at Beach Channel. At least one member of each team must be walking or running laps for the entire event.

The opening ceremony for the Beach Channel High School event will take place at 7 p.m. The Sur vivor’s Lap will take place at 7:15 p.m.

Those interested in further information or in obtaining a registration form may contact the American Cancer Society at 97-77 Queens Boulevard, Suite 1110, Rego Park, New York 11374 or at 718-263-2225 Ext. 26. Applications are also at the organization’s website, which can be reached at www.cancer.org/relay.
