Completed Kosovo Deployment

Marine Corps Reserve Chief Warrant Officer Jean Poitevien, son of Maria C, Poitevien of Arverne and Jean-Claude Poitevien of Brooklyn, recently completed a six-month deployment to Kosovo while assigned to Fourth Civil Affairs Group Detachment, based in Washington, D.C.

During the deployment, Poitevien’s unit acted as the eyes and ears of the Kosovo non-governmental agencies and the governmental agencies in 17 villages. The Marines brought all concerns voiced by the local citizens to the attention of the proper agency or business that could help.

One village reported their road as too small and close to a drop-off. Additionally, the road did not go by a local school so the children had to be escorted by adults along a path for fear of wolves, bears and wild pigs. They also needed medical aid and had problems with electricity.

Civil Affairs Groups facilitate civil affairs coordination between governmental bodies, non-governmental organizations and local populations around the world where needed.

Poitevien is a 1982 graduate of High school of Art and design of New York City.
