Lady Hornets Win AAU Tournament Games


The Lady Hornets girls’ basketball team won the first two games at an AAU Tournament in Brewster, N.Y. The team is based in Brooklyn but many key players come from Rockaway: Marianne Hanning, Shannon Delfini, Maureen O’ Sullivan and Jacqueline Gillen.

Marianne was the team’s high scorer for the weekend with 21 points. Shannin Delfini had six, Jacqueline Gillen had six and Maureen O’ Sullivan scored four points. The girls have previously played at the Fencor Tournament in Philadelphia and the Long Island Lightning tournament at Island Garden in Hempstead. Joe DeLuca, who is also the director of the Lady Hornets, coaches the girls. Pictured left to right: Jacqueline Gillen, Marianne Hanning, Shannon Delfini and Maureen O’ Sullivan.
