What’s Happening In Rockaway Sports
NYJTL Tennis Begins

The New York Junior Tennis League will be starting their 2003 Spring After-School Program. The program is free to all youth ages 6-18 with kids having the opportunity for instruction, practice and play. All youth will have the opportunity have fun, make new friends and learning the thrill in playing team tennis. There will be novice and intermediate levels, community groups are welcome and everyone will play.

The program will take place at Beach Channel High School at 100-00 Beach Channel Drive from May 14- June 27. The hours are Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m. Walk on registration only. For further information on our programs, please call the NYJTL at 718-786-7110 ext.157

Rockaway Grizzlies Practice

The Rockaway Grizzlies semi-pro football team will continue to practice at Beach Channel High School at 100-00 Beach Channel Drive every Saturday and Sunday. The time of practice will be at 10 a.m. The Grizzlies are looking to carry a 45-man roster so there are still plenty of chances for anyone interested to try

The team will be playing in the Garden State Football League starting in August with an 8 game schedule. Scrimmage games will tentatively start in June. Any questions about the team, call Lionel Theophile at 917-992-3958 or visit their website at www.rockawaygrizzlies.com.

Rockapulco Summer Run

The "Rockapulco Summer Run Series" begins Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. on the boardwalk at Beach 95 Street. The runs will continue each Thursday evening to July 17th. The distances are ¼ mile, 1 mile and 5K. It’s a great workout and lots of fun for al ages. This year, the fees are $2.00 for kids, $5.00 for adults and $10.00 for shirts. The proceeds will go to the St. Francis CYO Cross Country team. So put down the remote and get down tot the boardwalk. For info, call John at 718-474-4148.
