Broad Channel Hosts Queens American Legion Parade


The Board Channel Volunteer Fire Dep­artment led the parade, although many of its members and some of its apparatus had to leave the parade for an em­er­gency call nearby the North Chan­nel Bridge.

The Pipe Band from the Corrections Department took part in the parade.
Father Charles White, the pastor at St. Virgilius Church, gave the benediction.

Walter Gross (right) whose nephew, Roy Gross, died as a POW in Korea, receives an award from American Legion Official Feng Wong and Dan O’Sullivan.
Congressman Anthony Weiner presents Gross with a medal for his nephew’s service. Four other recipients also received awards for those who died during the Korean War.

City Councilman Joe Addabbo, Assemblywoman Aud­rey Pheffer, Captain Charles Talamo (CO of the 100 Precinct) and a representative of Borough Pres­ident Helen Marshall look on.
The Rockaway American Legion O’Connell Post, led by its color guard flag bearer Andy Cruz, walked the par­ade route.

Apparatus from the Broad Channel Volies livened up the parade.
The Beach Channel High School band provided music for the parade.

The Broad Channel Prince Wynn Post of the American Legion were the hosts for the parade and convention.
Rockaway residents Phyllis Weiss and her son, Mathew, watch the parade.

The American Legion Women’s Auxil­iary marches in strength.
The band from Francis Lewis High Sch­ool proved to be a big hit.

Many local residents turned out for the parade.
