SJEH Names Spadaro to Chair

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital South Shore has appointed Mark V. Spadaro, MD, to the position of Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Effective April 1. Dr. Spadaro, a resident of Belle Harbor, assumed the clinical and administrative responsibilities for St. John’s Emergency Department which treats more than 30,000 patients annually. The Emergency Department is a 911-receiving hospital and is the psychiatric receiving hospital for the Rockaway Peninsula.

Dr. Spadaro will oversee a $400,000 renovation recently started in St. John’s Emergency Department. The renovation will enhance patient care with the installation of a new cardiac monitoring system donated by the Development Board of St. John’s and a separate entrance for the pediatric emergency area. It will also significantly brighten the environment of the examination and waiting areas of the Emergency Department with new floor and wall coverings, lighting, furniture and beds.

Previously, Dr. Spadaro was the Director of Emergency Services at Beth Israel Medical Center Kings Highway Division in Brooklyn, New York. He is an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Spadaro has a Bachelor of Arts degree from City University of New York of Staten Island. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine integrated residency program in emergency medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and City Hospital Center at Elmhurst, Queens.
