P.S. 106 Hosts Principal For A Day

Schools throughout the city participated in Principal For A Day on Thursday, April 3. It was a very special day at P.S. 106 because it was celebrated with three very special people.

P.S. 106"s Acting Superintendent Ms. Michele Lloyd-Bay in Far Rock-away hosted three participants; namely, Ms. Carol Rasco, President and CEO, Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.; Mr. Brent Cantley, Ms. Rasco’s assistant; and Ms. Judith Exantus, Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager of the East Village Finan-cial Center.

During morning announcements the biographies of the guests were read by Ms. Joe Ann Hopkins, PDA/Literacy Specialist and coordinator of the day’s activities.

Ms. Rasco, Ms. Exantus and Mr. Cantley visited classrooms, spoke with students, observed a RIF books distribution, toured the two buildings that compose P.S. 106, and at-tended a "Tolerance Equals Peace" assembly.

At the assembly, the Principals For A Day presented trophies to the school’s Science Fair winners; Sam-uel Grimes, winner for grades 3-5; Kia Miller, grades K-2 and class winner 2-10.

The students performed "Tolerance Equals Peace" songs, dance and a Judge Judy Justice skit under the direction of music teacher Ms. Tina Lemberger.

The assembly’s culminating activity was a presentation to each of "Tolerance Equals Peace" handbooks made by students of P.S. 106. At the close of the day, Ms. Exantus read the day’s students’ attendance statistics, a daily routine at P.S. 106.

Mr. Arthur Straus is Principal and Ms. B’jai Pierce is Assistant Principal at P.S. 106.
