Vietnam Vets Host Rockaway Information Day

The Vietnam Veterans of America will be hosting a Veterans Information Day in Rockaway on June 7. The event, which will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall (333 Beach 90 Street) from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

According to Pat Toro, the president of the Vietnam vets organization, this will be the first such information day ever held in Rockaway.

Despite the fact that it is being hosted by the Vietnam vet’s group, it is open to veterans, spouses and eligible dependents of men and women who fought in any conflict, from World War II to the present conflict in the Gulf.

"We welcome vets and their families from any conflict," Toro says. "Counselors will be available to answer all of their questions and concerns.

Information will be available on such issues as VA compensation and pension claims, health care enrollment, document retrieval, benefit information and employment opportunities. Accredited counselors and service representatives from the Veteran’s Administration will be on hand to answer questions.

The information day is cosponsored by a number of city and state legislators, including Councilman Joe Addabbo, Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and State Senator Malcolm Smith. Other cosponsors of the event include George Basher of the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and the Vietnam Veterans Assistance Fund.
