Generations Share Holiday Traditions

Clients Edith Harris, Faina Raspopova and Rosa Orozeo.

Students from Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns (HAFTR) Elementary School, located in Lawrence, Long Island brought back traditions on April 10 for the Passover holiday to the DSSM-Neponsit Adult Day Health Care Center seniors located in Far Rockaway.

Their teachers; Deena Schwebel, Sari Palmer and Jasmin Javdan, prepared the children for this intergenerational holiday event. The children performed a model Seder complete with holiday songs that brought joy and happiness to the clients.

Generations melded together as one to share this festival of freedom, especially now when "Freedom" means so much to society. The children interviewed the DSSM-Neponsit Adult Day Health Care seniors to learn about their unique journeys during childhood or young adulthood from their native homelands in distant places like South America, Puerto Rico, Russia, Ireland, and England to the United States of America.

Traditions continued at the Center to celebrate the arrival of Easter and the beauty of the spring season on April 21 at the Easter Bonnet Parade. The clients flaunted their beautiful and very creative hats.

In keeping with Easter traditions, the seniors received a visit from the Easter bunny and were given delicious Easter baskets abundant with chocolate eggs and chocolate bunnies donated by Madelaine Chocolate Novelties, among many other holiday goodies, during the Center’s Easter party celebration.
