Injured A long-standing feud between Rock-away housing complexes may have reared its head once again, as three intruders, let into the building by a student who lived in the same complex, started a fight that led to two teachers being injured at Middle School 198 in Arverne last week. Police say that the same feud led to an incident at Times Square in Manhattan in March that left eight people shot, two of them critically. The two housing complexes, police say are the Oceanbay Houses (formerly the Edgemere Houses) and Ocean Village. Both are nearby the school, which is at 365 Beach 56 Street. While a number of local residents, who asked to remain anonymous, say that there were handguns involved, officials say that no weapon were used in the fight or in the assault of the teachers who tried to break up the fight. Margie Feinberg, a spokesperson for the New York City Department of Education, told The Wave that the incident began when the unnamed MS 198 student opened a side door and allowed three intruders to enter the building. Locals say that the three were residents of Oceanbay Houses. One of the three was an unidentified Beach Channel High School Student, who was later arrested for trespassing. The other two were reportedly not students of either school. The three allegedly went looking for students who live in the Ocean Village complex. A large fight broke out between the intruders and students. Teachers and school security officers attempted to intervene. One teacher was knocked to the ground and suffered head and shoulder injuries. Another was punched by one of the intruders. Both were reportedly treated on the scene and released. "There were no weapons involved. It was a fight between two groups of kids," Feinberg says. "The school will take the appropriate action against the students involved. School officials were not available for comment due to the school spring vacation period. | |||||
