Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree

The Rockaway Beach Civic Assoc-iation has a good idea. That organization would like to see yellow ribbons tied onto trees from West Lawrence to Breezy Point. The ribbons of course would honor our servicemen and women now fighting in Iraq and would stay in place until they all came safely home. We like the idea. We also understand that there are many who live in Rockaway who are opposed to the war. We don’t think that matters. One can be opposed to the war and the government’s position while still supporting those who are sent to implement that position. We have noticed some yellow ribbons already in place on some streets on the west end. We hope that the idea spreads until the peninsula is wrapped in yellow. Our young people fighting in Iraq deserve no less from those sitting at home.
