Family Day At Bayswater Park
By Gary G. Toms

On July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Rockaway Children’s Network, in conjunction with the City of New York Parks and Recreation, will sponsor the second annual "Rockaway Family Day Picnic." The festival will take place at Bayswater State Park, located at Bay 32 Street and Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway.

The event, billed as a show of unity and love for the community, will offer free food, music and entertainment, games and many other fun-filled activities for children and adults. Community representatives, business leaders and elected officials are expected to join in the celebration.

"This is our second annual event, and the reason we started this was to bring together agencies and families to effectively address their concerns. We want to continue the program on an annual basis, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Parks Department officials and the staff at the Sorrentino Center for their support," said James Brock Harris, of the Administration for Child Services.

Some of the other sponsors for this year’s bash include the Addabbo Family Center, Harlem Dowling Westside Center, Jewish Care of Long Island, Safe Space, Little Flower Children’s Services, St. Mary’s Children & Family, the Administration for Child Services (External Affairs/NBS, DCP and FPP), the Project for Rockaway Youth in Safety and Education, VIP Health Care Services and the Rockaway Children’s Committee.

To get to the event, you can take the A train, or the Q-22 bus, to Beach 36 Street. A parking facility will be available for those who may want to drive in.
