for larger version       Keltic Korner by Grace McCloskey Once a month I will do a column with the above sub-title. If you have any announcements to submit, write them down and drop them off at The Wave, attention Keltic Korner. In other issues, I will write announcement-free columns and some Gaelic lessons. My first column is dedicated to the victims and families of 9/11 and 11/12, and to the two great friends I lost suddenly afterward. One was Jimmy Sullivan, President Emeritus of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee in Rockaway. Jimmy taught me how to fundraise for a true beloved cause, how to organize Irish dances, how to select great Irish music. Mediocre Irish music never pleased him. He shared my love of Irish writing, wit, humor, and history. His eternal patience, even in dealing with ungrateful, difficult people, taught me much about forgiveness and learning to tolerate the fools among us and our organizations. The other was Christine Kennedy, known as the Irish psychic. Chris taught me much about spiritual matters. Her dedication to the Little Flower made me look deeply at the two Theresa’s again. Teresa of Avila, who my own Irish mother Teresa Quinn McCloskey was named for, and the little Carmelite, Theresa of Lisieux, who answered all Christians’ hopes and prayers. During a very difficult time in my life, cancer operations and a year of chemotherapy and radiation, Christine and Jimmy were always there for me. I trust they are still helping me from above. I dedicate all my columns to my beloved pop – the late great Pat. The President of the Rockaway Music and Arts Council, the organizer of the Sweet & Low Run, Barbara Eisenstadt, and myself Grace McCloskey, has worked very hard to bring you Cherish The Ladies and the Danny Golden Dancers at Fort Tilden last weekend. You responded and more than 1,100 people attended the concert. Cherish The Ladies, for those of you who missed the concert, is the female equivalent of The Chieftains. Joanie Madden and her ladies had to buck the male traditional music establishment to succeed, and they did so superbly. Mgsr. Michael J. Connolly of St. Thomas More in Rockaway Point was in charge of the weather for this concert and he came through. Monsignor, my pastor, spoke to his boss and he guaranteed me little Irish Mist. If ever there was a year that Rockaway needed entertainment, it is 2002. You will see memorial ads in Sunday’s program, as it is our Memory Concert. Our Irish sub-committee for the Rockaway Music and Arts Committee Irish Concert was Barbara "O’Eisenstadt", President RMAC, Grace McCloskey, Presenter, Lew "McSimon" – Raffle Chairman, Sally "McGwirtzman," Shirley "O’Golub," Mary "O’Gonah."
