for larger version       Pickett Completes Training Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Andre D. Pickett, son of Amanda Arrocho of Far Rockaway, recently completed the Close-In Weapons System Operation and Maintenance Course at Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic, Virginia Beach, VA, and was promoted to his present rank. During the 27-week course, Pickett learned the skills needed to maintain and operate the Phalanx Close-in Weapons System, a rapid-fire 20 mm gun that provides Navy ships with a "last-chance" defense against anti-ship missiles and other warfare threats. Pickett is a 2000 graduate of Beach Channel High School of Far Rockaway and joined the Navy in August 2000.
